70 years of Dormac CNC Solutions: from trading house to full service partner

This year, Dormac CNC Solutions, a prominent technology partner for the Dutch machining industry, is celebrating its 70th anniversary. Dormac's Open House highlights the company's transformation from a trading house to a full service partner for the machining industry. "It is no longer just about the machine, but about trusting a solution," said Joost Verschure, director and co-owner of Dormac.

Dormac began in 1954 as a trading house in Italian machinery founded by the Ten Cate brothers. The main brand was Doria Machina, from which the name Dormac was derived. "We spoke the same language as the machine operators. That was our added value," Joost says. In the early years, Dormac was primarily an importer of Italian machines, but the company quickly evolved into a technology partner that supports and relieves customers in optimizing their production processes.

A new logo for a new era

This year, Dormac CNC Solutions revamped its logo. The traditional chuck has been replaced by a symbolic clip that embraces the customer, the product and its own employees. "Together we have to do the job," Joost explained. The new management has adapted its product portfolio in recent decades, with DN Solutions as the largest brand, complemented by Gurutzpe and Nicolás Correa for large machining, and Bost as the fourth CNC brand. In addition, Dormac offers a range of complementary technologies through subsidiaries such as Dormatec Environment Systems and the cobot branch Dormac Robotics, supplier of Doosan Robotics. With the convergence of these industries, Dormac can offer what customers demand: namely, the total solution.

Customer focus

While product support has always been important, Dormac sees a substantial difference from the past. "We have always stood beside the customer to guide him to make the best product. Today that is even more important than ever. Things are currently moving so fast that we are using more and more specialists to advise the customer on the front end." By working closely with partners, from tool suppliers to providers of automation solutions and CAM software, for example, Dormac CNC Solutions can offer the best solution. "Together with customers, we can develop an optimal process." This process is becoming increasingly important in machining, while customers' knowledge is decreasing due to aging and a shortage of skilled workers. "You need to know at the front end where the customer's actual needs lie," says Joost. This requires a deep understanding of the products the customer makes on the CNC machines.

Successful collaboration with Nicolás Correa

The basis for this is trust. The trust that Dormac has built in 70 years is evidenced by the successful cooperation with Nicolás Correa. Together with the Spanish machine builder, several large projects are currently being realized in the Netherlands for the large machining company. "They have confidence in us, this is the basis for a good cooperation," he says. This trust is based in part on Dormac's 25+ service technicians spread across the country. Nicolás Correa's dealership has opened doors for Dormac in the large machining market.

Future plans and challenges

Is the portfolio complete now that the Spanish machine builders have been added? Joost would like to take a step toward precision machining, the top of the pyramid. "There, everything hinges on product support. You can sell the most advanced machine, but if you don't understand the customer's process, the performance of the machine will not be optimal." Dormac CNC Solutions is poised to grow into the highest segment of machining in the Netherlands. "With DN Solutions, we are strong at the upper end of the middle segment. But there are always companies that are ready for the 'next step' in machining. With this 'next step' in machining, both employee and company culture are challenged to develop further. Only then can Dormac continue to fulfill the role of front leader in the middle/high end of machining. In this way, the company can continue its transformation into a full service partner for the machining industry. With a strong focus on innovation, customer support and cooperation.

The Open House of Dormac CNC Solutions will take place on November 12, 13 and 14 in De Goorn. More than 20 partners attending include Halter CNC Automation, Iscar, Mastercam, TFT, Cobotx, Promation and Doosan Robotics. More than 10 CNC machines from DN Solutions will be demonstrated live, and more than 20 total solutions.
