"Those who want to mill and turn various workpieces in one setup, with high speed, accuracy as well as autonomy, have come to the right place with the 715 series from Chiron," says Frédéric Taillet, management associate at Buhlmann. The company has long represented the Chiron brand.
"Speed, accuracy and autonomy are paramount at Chiron, manufacturer of machine tools for the metalworking industry. Every second counts, is the motto. They produce machine tools with particularly fast tool change times. If you need twenty tools for one workpiece, and you save one or two seconds per tool change, then you easily save twenty or forty seconds per product. That may seem little, but every second counts in production," Taillet said. "This is just one example, because Chiron is doing everything it can to save time in every area."
During the 2021 open house, Chiron introduced the 715 series for the first time worldwide. It thus nicely complemented the company's existing machine fleet. The 715 series was developed based on the existing Chiron MPS machine, the FZ08S milling turning center and the MT 733 machining center from Stama. It combines the best features and characteristics of these machines and brings together various capabilities in one machine platform: five-axis complete machining, milling-turning operations in any sequence on six sides, workpiece dimensions up to a diameter of 300 mm and a length of 1,000 mm. Meanwhile, the series has amply proven itself in practice.
Its advantages over other machines are higher precision, shorter lead times, greater flexibility, minimal changeover times for small series, and lower logistics costs. These features make the 715 series suitable for demanding six-sided complete machining jobs in medical engineering, aerospace, energy, automotive, and so on.
The series is available in two versions, which can be customized and configured in different ways: the two machine types are the MT 715 MILL TURN and MP 715 MULTI PROFILE. They both include different levels of configuration for milling and turning operations to machine rods or profiles automatically. The swivel head, turning spindle and counter spindle allow continuous multi-purpose machining on all six sides. The machines ensure high reliability and quality, for example for turbine blades, extrusions for chassis or battery storage.
The machines offer space for 128 tools and feature integrated workpiece handling with workpiece storage. This means that the machining centers are very suitable for the automated production of workpieces in small and medium series. This allows companies to run additional unmanned shifts, leading to higher productivity and lower costs. This is an important plus, in times when there is a shortage of technicians. Finally, the new machine platform is also set up to integrate digital systems from the SmartLine portfolio.
