As a leader in sheet metal working, Voortman Steel Machinery focuses on autonomous, multiple operations on one machine through innovative software and automation. The prime example of this is the Voortman V310. This is a productive and flexible sheet metal working machine for fully automatic plasma and oxyfuel cutting (including 3D bevel cutting), drilling, milling, marking, wire tapping and galvanizing. Everything is designed to perform as many operations as possible in a single fixture, eliminating the need to move parts to other workstations. This results in fast production, flexibility and short lead times for complete high-quality parts. In addition to all these operations on one compact machine, automated and unmanned sheet metal working is also taken to the next level by the advanced Voortman VACAM Software.
A large dedicated team of software engineers puts their passion and expertise daily into developing these smart software solutions and updates. The source of inspiration? User experiences and market developments that result in groundbreaking initiatives and innovations.
The Voortman sheet metalworking machinery domain has undergone a transformation, with a strong emphasis on increasing interaction, automation and accessible unmanned production. This has led to the introduction of the new 24″ operator panel and several advanced VACAM software features. A striking example of this is the Voortman Operator Dashboard, a tool that evolved from the original vision from an information provider to an authentic support source for operators. This Dashboard informs operators when they need to be at the machine for manual operations or loading the next plate or job. It enables operators to use the right tools to influence machine uptime.
Building on this development, Voortman has made unmanned production very accessible. For example, on the Voortman V310, one can cluster jobs via the Sequencing function, buffer multiple plates via the Buffer function, to finally the 'Unmanned Mode' activate function to bypass manual operations for extended periods of time. Pre-drill holes during night shifts and effortlessly create edge starts the next morning to continue cutting in a highly efficient manner. The Operator Dashboard automatically indicates when operator intervention is required, allowing operators to add value elsewhere in the workshop in the meantime. All of this adds up tremendously to improved efficiency.
In order to share knowledge about all these developments with customers so that they too can get the most out of their production process and to offer them new insights, Voortman has developed five webinars on relevant topics over the past two years. For example, a webinar was held that was entirely devoted to milling, which is still frequently viewed to this day. The most recent webinar, held in June, was about bevel cutting. From beginners looking to learn the basics of bevel cutting to seasoned professionals looking to refine their bevel cutting skills, the webinar offered accessible discussions and demonstrations in a real production environment. To provide as many people as possible with the knowledge shared, the webinars are now available online through the Voortman website.
Voortman is determined to continue on this innovative path. Stay up to date on all these developments through the social media channels or sign up for the Voortman newsletter, to receive the latest news directly to your inbox.
