Metal finishing at high speed
Q-Fin Quality Finishing Machines takes manufacturing processes like those at Forceertechniek Koolmees to the next level.

High-speed metal finishing

Manual production processes are not yet out of the world. But if it can be faster, more efficient, more ergonomic and more sustainable, it is worth an investment for any metal company. For that reason and specifically for the deburring and rounding of metal sheet parts, Forceertechniek Koolmees came into contact with Q-Fin Quality Finishing Machines. Now an all-in-one compact, high-speed F1200 is running in Zwijndrecht.

Team Koolmees excels at forging steel, aluminum, stainless steel, copper and brass up to 1 meter in diameter. With owner Remco Koolmees, the company is in its third generation. There is no shortage of growth and expertise. When manual production takes too much time, is too physically demanding and also polluting, you have to take steps. Remco Koolmees sought and found a solution with the innovative machine builder from Bergeijk

Postprocessing 4.0

Q-Fin develops and delivers innovative solutions for deburring, rounding and finishing metal sheet metal parts. In doing so, the company also provides efficient handling, insight into performance and high reliability. Everything for maximum output. Sales manager Patrick van Scherpenseel: 'At Q-Fin we help organizations that want to make an impression. Companies that are ready to get started with their 4.0 version. Who believe that simple production processes are not an obstacle, but an opportunity to stand out from the rest. That also typifies Forceertechniek Koolmees BV where we were allowed to install an F1200.'

'I am proud to say that we are among the top in Europe,' says Remco Koolmees. 'But customers -especially machine builders- who have sheet metal parts forced, often also require other machining operations. Those who have a taper forced, for example, also need cut and edged sheet metal and milled flanges. Therefore, we offer all machining techniques in-house. For our sheet metal department, we were looking last year for a deburring machine to operate at top level. As soon as orders become serial and repetitive, we investigate the possibilities for automation. That way the work also remains exciting.'

Ergonomics and durability were also considered in the development of the F1200.

The needs of the operator central

With the F1200 it is possible to rework workpieces up to 1200 mm wide at high speed. The machine can be used for the following operations: deburring, grinding, edge breaking, rounding, slag removal, oxide removal, line finishing or a combination of all of these. The first station of the F1200 consists of a grinding unit, the second and third of a brushing unit, equipped with 4 crosswise rotating brushes for sharp edges.

It's about more than the machine an sich at Q-Fin. The before and after process is just as important as the installation itself. 'Think about jointly determining the location to deploy the machine as efficiently as possible,' Patrick van Scherpenseel continues. 'Then we provide an installation drawing and checklist for the desired connection values. During the installation itself, the operators receive training so that they are fully informed. And in terms of service and maintenance, too, our people are always ready.'

'At Q-Fin they have got it just right' concludes Remco Koolmees. 'The machines are developed from the needs of the operator. The software is set in such a way that an operator who is just sweeping can start the machine after 5 minutes. Typical of the F1200 are ease of operation and speed. We can now finish up to 5 times faster, moreover in a frame that is more ergonomic and durable. The cooperation with Q-Fin has really raised our production process to a higher level.'

Handling optimization

The F1200 is super fast. Then you sometimes notice that the handling around it slows down. Q-Fin has become a specialist in providing advice to help optimize that handling. Competitive advantage does not come about automatically; the Q-Fin team pushes boundaries every day to achieve this. Better machines, better software, better handling, better... Real innovation only occurs where everything comes together and where just that little bit of extra service is provided. 'Pushing the edge' is what they call it!
