Bend even thick sheet material (45+ kg) with Sophia®

The latest version of Sophia® automatically recognizes your bending in products heavier than 45 kg. This concerns sheets up to a thickness of 12 mm. Please note that due to the dimensions of the lifting aid, there are minimum dimensions you must take into account.

A regular customer request was to request settlements in heavier products (45+ kg) in Sophia®. This required an expansion of our press brake tool assortment and lifting aid. Recently, new dies have been purchased that make it possible to bend thicker plates and the lifting aid has been installed. Parts weighing up to 75 kg are now assessed and produced by Sophia® in one of our six production sites.

Additional control in Sophia®

Despite the new equipment, the maximum power available from the available press brakes at 247TailorSteel can exert on a product is not sufficient to be able to bend a length of 3 meters for all material thicknesses. Therefore, from now on Sophia® checks the maximum bending line length for all materials and material thicknesses based on the amount of force required for the bending lines to be edged. In our submission specifications you will find the maximum bending length per material thickness. In this news release you will see a practical example of the maximum bending line length.

Delivery specifications for 45+ kg lace products

Products over 45+ kg are edged using a lifting aid. This aid has fixed dimensions that must be taken into account in the design process.

Minimum product size

The lifting aid lifts the products by means of suction cups. The minimum product size depends on the height of the product; at a height of 50mm, the smallest possible product size is 520x420mm. This raised edge, when bending, meets parts of the lifting aid, where the raised edge must stay under. See the illustration below.
 
This also gives the product enough surface area to position the suction cups of the lifting aid unless the product has holes. If there are holes under the suction cup, the vacuum will be lost and the sheet cannot be lifted and moved, making it unworkable.

Maximum bending flange for small products

Due to the cross bars of the lifting aid, there are limitations in the maximum bending flange for small (minimum 420 x 520 mm > 620 x 620 mm) products. The flange here can be a maximum of 50 mm high. 

Maximum bending flange for medium-sized products

Is your product between 620 x 620 mm > 620 x 1220 mm? Then you should consider a maximum bending flange of 180 mm. This is the maximum height between the bottom of the plate and the horizontal support beam of the lifting aid.

Maximum bending flange for large products 

The maximum bending flange for large products (>1220 x 620 mm) is set at 230 mm. This is the maximum height the side flange can have due to the opening in the press brake.
