Coolant-free metal cutting in nuclear plant decommissioning and renewal
The drive for innovation is strong at the German manufacturer. This HDC 8203E, for example, is a cordless handheld circular saw developed together with Mafell AG.

Coolant-free metal cutting in decommissioning and renewal of nuclear power plants

A continuous drive for innovation is an important factor for the growth of any company. Jepson Power has been continuously investing in research and development since its founding in 1984. The R&D department of the German inventor of Dry Cutter technology develops and produces customized solutions for the most diverse, often demanding applications. For example, metal hand-held circular saws play a crucial role in the efficient, safe and environmentally friendly decommissioning of nuclear power plants.

Dry Cutter technology enables dry cutting of steel, stainless steel and composite materials, i.e. without lubricants or coolant. The sawing cycle becomes shorter, the service life longer. Thanks to the clean cutting pattern, deburring is optional. Lubricant- and coolant-free cutting is also ecologically and economically better. For example, no harmful chemicals enter the environment. There are also no costs for purchasing and disposing of the agents and cleaning the workpieces after cutting.

"Our passionate R&D staff has accumulated a great deal of experience and knowledge over the years. As a result, they can provide answers to the most diverse questions. For example, there are saw blades with special surface treatments for cutting various types of stainless steel," states CEO Pierre Michiels. "Our products are therefore used in both simple and highly complex, demanding applications. For example, our state-of-the-art manual circular saws for metal are very important in the decommissioning of nuclear power plants. Indeed, they offer numerous advantages that make the process more efficient, safer and environmentally friendly."

Precision, performance and safety

Jepson Power's circular saws score very high in terms of precision. When dismantling and renewing nuclear power plants, it is of the utmost importance that the structures and components are removed in a precise and controlled manner. During the sawing process, for example, (almost) no sparks are allowed to occur.

"With our saws, workers can make clean, straight and almost spark-free cuts. Safety and efficiency are thus significantly improved. They are also enormously powerful, making it easier to cut thick metal structures. And the high performance allows workers to do more work in a shorter period of time during demolition. Efficiency is increased and costs are reduced," the CEO continued. "Decommissioning nuclear power plants is also an extremely dangerous job. Therefore, worker safety is a priority. When developing our metal circular saws and other products, we pay great attention to safety features. As a result, our systems always meet the strictest safety standards and the risk of accidents is minimized."

Jepson Power is the inventor of Dry Cutter technology, which allows for dry cutting, i.e. without coolant.

Ecological and mobile

Circular saws also offer environmental benefits. Lubricants and coolants are not required, so no harmful chemicals are released into the environment. In addition, the often high cost of disposing of contaminated lubricants is eliminated. Finally, mobility is also a factor in choosing Jepson Power's metal circular saws. Nuclear power plants are often large and complex structures that need to be dismantled at several locations. The saws are light and portable, allowing workers to easily take them from one location to another. This adds to flexibility and efficiency.

Customer Service

Product quality is one thing, but at Jepson Power they attach equal importance to service. Thus, they provide regular maintenance of and necessary repairs to the saws to ensure optimal performance and safety at all times.

"We also invest heavily in training and support for users. After all, we want them to be able to work well with the saws in order to achieve maximum efficiency," concludes Pierre Michiels. "We are very proud that our innovative products can also be used when decommissioning nuclear power plants. Our mobile handheld circular saws score highly in terms of efficiency, accuracy and safety, among others, making them ideally suited for such demanding applications. Ultimately, it comes down to shortening work time, reducing costs while ensuring worker safety."
