Whether it's first-class international conferences, renowned awards, a top talk with industry experts and politicians, special exhibitions or insights on current topics at the various foren - during the "Bright World of Metals" there are numerous highlights in the program, which complement the presentations of the more than 2,100 exhibitors from 56 countries. Thus, all four technology trade fairs offer a wide range of important topics from the metallurgical industries and show strategies in theory and practice, on how companies can realize the transition to a more sustainable economy.

Politics meets business

On the first day of the fair, the program of the international leading trade fair quartet has a special highlight: a conversation between top decision-makers from the industry and politicians. On stage, the following guests will interact: Mona Neubaur, Minister of Economy, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Clemens Küpper, president of BDGuss, Dr. Heike Denecke-Arnold, Chief Operations Officer at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG, Till Schreiter, Managing Director at ABP Induction Systems GmbH, Burkhard Dahmen, CEO of SMS Group GmbH, and Dr. Ioannis Ioannidis, spokesperson for the management of Oskar Frech GmbH & Co. KG (June 12, 2023 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Hall 1, Room 115).

Groundbreaking developments shape the program: ecoMetals Forum and theme day 'Green thermoprocess technology'

The ecoMetals campaign of Messe Düsseldorf, the "green heart" of the Bright World of Metals since 2011, is being expanded this year with numerous new formats. On June 15, 2023, at THERMPROCESS in hall 9, booth D74, for the first time the 'ecoMetals Forum Metals4Sure' place. The event focuses on metallurgical technologies, processes and applications. The industry's extensive knowledge of decarbonization helps, to make proven processes for metal production and forming increasingly sustainable. The transition from a fossil-nuclear energy system to a renewable energy supply for industrial production, is a radical change, requiring innovation, investment and continuous improvements. Thermal processes and their relatively high energy consumption, are the key to sustainable, climate-neutral metal production.

In particular, these aspects will be highlighted and discussed during the theme day 'Green thermoprocess technology' on June 12, 2023. Conference speakers include Matthias Zelinger, VDMA Head of Climate & Energy, Matthias Rehfeldt, Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, Carsten Gondorf and Nico Schmitz, Department of Industrial Furnaces and Heat Engineering, RWTH Aachen, René Gail, Project Management Jülich (PtJ), Joachim G. Wünning, FOGI - Forschungsgemeinschaft Industrieofenbau, Nadine Barthel, Cluster Decarbonization in Industries (CDI), Egbert Baake, Institute of Electrical Engineering, Leibniz University Hanover, and Hartmut Krause, TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The partner of the ecoMetals Forum is the VDMA Trade Association Metallurgy, which also organizes the THERMPROCESS Forum in cooperation with Forschungsgemeinschaft Industrieofenbau (FOGI). The conference language of all events is English; participation is free for visitors to the fair. For more information: www.thermprocess.de/de/Besuchen/Rahmenprogramm/ecoMetals_2023.

'Castainability' special exhibition and NEWCAST AWARD

The GIFA and NEWCAST halls 10 to 17, are the meeting places for the international foundry industry, thanks in part to the various activities of the Verein Deutscher Gießereifachleute e. V. (VDG) and the Bundesverband der Deutschen Gießerei-Industrie e. V. (BDG). The focus of this year's foren is on topics that prepare the foundry sector for a climate-neutral future. The special exhibition 'Castainability' will be introduced at booth C17 - F68 of the BDG in Hall 13, where visitors can see, how sustainable casting can be. In the past, castings for automotive lightweight structures and renewable energy have already been on the agenda of NEWCAST. But in view of the challenges of decarbonizing industrial processes, the transition to electric mobility and climate-neutral heat technology, the strength and innovation potential of the casting process is now once again being demonstrated. On June 14, 2023, the most innovative castings from international NEWCAST exhibitors will be awarded the renowned NEWCAST Award. Program information can be found at GIFA FORUM 2023 and on NEWCAST FORUM 2023.

METEC steel fair and its conferences ESTAD and EMC

METEC, with its conferences ESTAD (European Steel Technology and Application Days) and EMC (European Metallurgical Conference), is an unbeatable successful trio. From June 12 to 16, everything revolves around ESTAD, Europe's largest steel congress, is about green steel and the challenges currently facing the industry on its way to climate-neutral production processes. Experts will provide answers to important technological questions during the METEC trade fair and the concurrent congress - thus contributing to the global success of the steel industry. For steel producers, suppliers and users, the five-day congress is an absolute industry highlight. The 6th ESTAD is organized by the Steel Institute VDEh. Detailed information and tickets are available at: https://metec-estad2023.com

EMC is the most important conference for non-ferrous metallurgists in Europe. Every two years, more than 400 metallurgists, scientists and decision-makers from all over the world gather to discuss current challenges within their fields. This year EMC's theme is "CO2 neutral and autonomous energy supply. The main themes are hydrogen, lithium and decarbonization. The program includes more than 90 exciting presentations and discussions on circular economy and recycling, Industry 4.0 and process virtualization within hydro- and pyro-metallurgy. The conference, held exclusively in English, is initiated by GDMB - Society of Metallurgists and Miners - and targets metal producers, plant manufacturers and service providers, as well as universities and engineering firms. Tickets and registration are available at the following link: https://gdmb.de/emc-2023-european-metallurgical-conference/

THERMPROCESS successful with forum and special exhibition

Theory and practice also go hand in hand at the THERMPROCESS events, the FOGI special exhibition of the Forschungsgemeinschaft Industrieofenbau e. V. and the THERMPROCESS forum of the VDMA Metallurgy. At the THERMPROCESS forum, renowned exhibitors will present innovative processes and solutions in the field of thermal process technology and digitalization of processes and plants. The lecture program reflects current challenges and drivers for companies in the field of thermal process technology and focuses, among other things, on the contribution of thermal process technology to recycling for an integrated circular economy. Experts from colleges and institutes moderate the exhibitors' individual blocks. Participation in the conference is free for THERMPROCESS attendees. The studio will host fascinating panel discussions and interviews with experts. Partner Vulkan Verlag will provide daily live coverage from the exhibition halls, expanding the digital offerings on the portals of GIFA-METEC-THERMPROCESS-NEWCAST.

Metals4you

In addition to ecoMetals, talent development is the topic of concern for the metallurgical industries. As an attractive high-tech location and successful exporting country in the global market, Germany needs an excellent training system and qualified technical professionals. Moreover, in recent years there has been a significant change in image in many professions in the industry, of which many young people are unaware. But how do companies and young talent find each other? The talent development program Metals4you creates a unique platform for future talents. The initiative enables schoolchildren aged 15 and up, as well as beginning students and apprentices, to access innovations and employers in the metal and foundry sector on the exhibition days from Monday to Friday. In close cooperation with the supporting associations, the Federal Association of the German Foundry Industry (BDG), the Industrial Association for Foundry Chemistry (IVG), the Steel Institute VDEh, and the Association of German Machinery and Plant Engineering (VDMA), attractive services have been developed for companies and educational institutions.
