Voortman Steel Machinery has been a global leader in the development, production, supply and maintenance of steel processing machines in the broadest sense of the word for more than fifty years. The company is at the forefront of digitalization and anticipates customer challenges through smart machines and software. To continue this course, the brand new Engineering Center will soon be opened, where over 250 software engineers will work.
The range of steel processing machines developed by Voortman is undeniable. It includes a broad package for processing profiles, sheets, tubes and strip and angle material, with Voortman also providing full assistance in the entire logistics process. With this, Voortman serves various types of customers, including steel builders, sheet metal workers, steel traders and machine builders.
All software engineers in the new Engineering Center work daily on smart software updates and incorporate user experiences and market developments into new initiatives and innovations. The starting point here is the relief of the customer, who wants to focus on the efficient processing of steel without having to delve too deeply into digitization. Of course, the same customer is interested in the advantages of this digitalization, such as a production that is more efficient, faster and safer while maintaining or improving quality.
Looking at these smart digital solutions in the field of sheet metal working, they range from those that are immediately noticeable at the machine and in the workshop, to those that transform the entire value chain from job preparation to finished sheet metal working product.
A perfect example of the first type of solution is the high degree of automation and feedback to the machine through the far-reaching in-house developed VACAM Software. Here, automation at the touch of a button is central, so that even the most complex processes can be carried out by anyone - even if one has never worked with it before. For example, the Voortman V310 sheet metalworking machine can mill, drill, (bevel) cut, tap, mark and countersink any high-quality part with ease, thanks to its built-in intelligence. Complex bevel cuts and various milled shapes can be created without manual programming or knowledge. All it takes is a simple push of a button.
Voortman is making great strides toward its ultimate goal of making unmanned turning as accessible and simple as possible. With the V310, it is possible to cluster jobs, buffer multiple plates and activate Unmanned Mode to bypass manual operations for extended periods of time. The interactive Operator Dashboard indicates when presence at the machine is required. At times when no one is needed at the machine, value can be added elsewhere in the workshop.
Voortman supports not only with immediately noticeable software solutions at the machine and in the workshop, but also in transforming the entire value chain of sheet metal workers through automation and digitization. From order management to finished product, Voortman offers a wide range of digital solutions and tools for each step in the value chain. This enables customers to benefit from real-time, enterprise-wide data that is connected to make powerful decisions that move them forward with confidence as a business.
The above solutions show that Voortman is always willing to go the extra mile for its customers. This is also reflected in the customer service for which Voortman is known. This service and support do not only apply during the implementation phase, but continue as long as the machine is in use. Maintenance, servicing and continuous thinking along with improvements are standard part of Voortman Steel Machinery's personal and service-oriented approach. ■
