Easily and quickly a pipe with the right diameter

Th. Wortelboer B.V. is the address for pipe processing. The company will be 80 years old next year and over the years has specialized further and further in supplying machines and tools for pipe and plate processing in the full width, from standard products to custom-made products. In this article, Jeroen Wortelboer, responsible for sales at the family business takes a closer look at two machines: an RSG fire cutting machine and the WPS sawing machine.

"We recently added a new automatic pipe sawing machine to our product line: the WPS-12-24," Wortelboer says. "This was developed to easily and quickly set a pipe to the correct length dimension, clamp it and, through a carbide saw blade, shorten the pipe. Through the control, a pneumatic/hydraulic pressure cylinder causes the saw blade to cut through the pipe. A separate servo motor starts the circular motion allowing the pipe to be cut to size, squarely and quickly." The motor is focused on cutting pipes with wall thicknesses from about 4 mm to about 20 to 25 mm, so very easy and universally applicable. "Because a servo motor also drives the saw blade, the speed is adjustable from high to low. The machine can therefore cut both steel and stainless steel pipes. Moreover, the servo motor ensures a constant moment force at both low and high speed," Wortelboer said.

Simple operation

The control panel of the WPS-12-24 includes a dual button control to allow the saw blade to pass through the pipe through the upper position of the saw blade. Furthermore, the speed of the saw blade can be controlled as well as the speed of the circular motion. The saw can be manually raised and lowered via a push button to achieve the desired height. Together with the rotary knobs to set the machine to the correct pipe diameter and height, this ensures simple operation and maximum ease of use. 

Pipe fire cutting machine

Also successful in the market is the RSG fire cutting machine. The Rotofix RSG pipe cutting machines are made for use in workshops and on construction sites. Wortelboer: "They are slid over the pipe and fixed and adjusted on the pipe at the place where cutting is required. During cutting, only the carriage with the torch moves around the pipe over a precise guide. Both the machine with its drive mechanism and the pipe remain fixed so that accurate cuts can be made."

Straight cuts and mitre cuts

This machine is very suitable for cutting pipes straight to length, but making miter cuts/miter bends is also worth mentioning. "The angle between the cutting line of the machine and the pipe is exactly 90 degrees and for mitre cuts it exactly matches the preset cutting angle," said Wortelboer. The special feature of this machine is its short set-up time, even with increasingly different diameters. A rolling chassis allows one person to work, even with large machines, without using lifting equipment.
