Always efficient welding fume extraction at the source

Today, health protection and occupational safety for welders are just as important as accurate welding results with the most consistent quality possible. In addition to muscle strain, the risk of harmful welding fumes also plays a role. The closer to the source the welding fumes can be extracted, the safer for the environment. ABICOR BINZEL has the right solutions to do this reliably and efficiently with the xFUME® PRO extraction guns for MIG/MAG welding, the xFUME® TIG extraction torches for TIG welding and the xFUME® ROBO extraction kit for robotic or cobot welding.

In 2018, the International Research Institute of Cancer (IARC) classified welding fumes as carcinogenic. So the importance of occupational health and safety is noticeable in more stringent welding fume extraction regulations. With spot extraction, welding fumes are extracted directly at the source with the front of the fume extraction gun and discharged to a mobile extraction unit. This filters out the harmful particles and releases the purified air back into the environment. Spot extraction is the most efficient technique for extracting welding fumes. With this so-called high vacuum system, up to 99.95% of all dust particles > 0.1 µm can be filtered out of the welding fumes with the filter used.

Features of the xFUME® PRO fume extraction guns

Compared to the bulk of extraction guns available on the market, the xFUME® PRO line of extraction guns is particularly light and convenient to use. With these fume extraction guns, you feel like you are holding standard MIG/MAG guns in your hand. Usually, welding fume extraction guns are not very popular among welders because they are considered rather heavy and bulky. ABICOR BINZEL's xFUME® PRO extraction gun line, on the other hand, is not only much easier to handle, all extraction guns also have a relatively slim front end, ensuring a good view of the process.

Features of the xFUME® TIG extraction torches

TIG welding is considered an almost fume-free welding process. Unlike MIG or MAG welding, significantly less welding fumes are visible. But appearances are deceptive: the resulting welding fumes are usually invisible, but all the more dangerous - especially with high-alloy materials and aluminum - when inhaled. With the air- and liquid-cooled xFUME® TIG extraction torches, ABICOR BINZEL has developed extraction torches especially for TIG welding, which extract welding fumes at the source and thus prevent toxic welding fumes from causing damage. In addition to the newly developed, patented, combined ceramic protective gas and extraction nozzle, the xFUME® TIG extraction torches use ABICOR BINZEL's proven high-performance concept with electrode holder from the ABTIG PRO series. This combines collet and collet holder in one part, provides a large surface area for current transfer and heat dissipation, and ensures perfect positioning of the tungsten electrode. Since this concept eliminates the collet as the TIG wear part, it also has a positive effect on inventory management and operating costs.

Features of the xFUME® ROBO extraction kit

MIG welding and MAG welding in particular generate a lot of welding fumes that must be extracted from the robotic cells. The extraction of welding fumes using stationary extraction systems usually does not take into account the fact that many workers are working in the production hall. When a robot cell or welding curtain is opened, welding fumes are always released and inadvertently inhaled. This must be avoided. The xFUME® ROBO extraction kit is mounted on the neck of the robot torch with adapter sleeves. These sleeves easily accommodate variations in diameter and allow the kit to be mounted on different types of goosenecks (easily). Harmful welding fumes are captured behind the gas nozzle. Good accessibility of the robot torch to the process - even in tight positions - is thus guaranteed.
