Polygonal clamping technology now also available for powered tools

Polygonal clamping technology stands for precision and strength. The high-precision SCHUNK TRIBOS polygonal clamping technology is now also available for lathes with driven tools. For this purpose SCHUNK, the market leader for gripping systems and clamping technology, developed special polygonal tool holders with ER taper. These holders can be combined with all common holders for ER chucks, especially also with driven tools.

SCHUNK TRIBOS polygonal toolholders with ER taper are specially designed for lathes and automatic rotary transfer machines. They offer minimum changeover times and precise presetting. Even the smallest shank diameters can be accurately clamped directly.

Fast and accurate presetting

The clamping system uses the high flexibility of the ER cone and combines it with the accuracy of polygonal clamping technology. Instead of using the less accurate collet, the TRIBOS mount is simply inserted into the available tool holder and secured with the ER clamping nut. This has the advantage that the tool in the TRIBOS mounts can be preset with an accuracy of 0.01 mm in length and can be replaced in the chuck in no time. In this way, the user benefits from fast setup times and a much higher repeat accuracy of the clamping system, in terms of concentricity and projection lengths compared to ER collets.

Specialists for micro machining and high speed machining

TRIBOS clamps even tools with the smallest shank diameter with high accuracy. The one-piece clamping system is resistant to dirt and has high radial rigidity. TRIBOS polygonal toolholder with ER taper is available in two different versions. The slim TRIBOS-Mini ER is an expert in micro machining and sets the standard when it comes to small shank diameters, delicate machining as well as hard-to-reach places. The holder is available in size ER 11 (clamping diameter 1 mm to 4 mm) and ER 16, ER 20, ER 25 and R 32 (clamping diameter 1 mm to 6 mm). On the other hand, TRIBOS-RM ER is perfectly suited for precise cutting operations of large volumes at high speeds. Its incredible clamping forces allow excellent cutting forces with excellent concentricity, increasing productivity. Its design and high stability damp vibrations and guarantee a long tool life. The TRIBOS-RM is available in sizes ER 20 (clamping diameter 3 mm 8 mm) and ER 25 and ER 32 (clamping diameter 3 mm to 12 mm).

Virtually maintenance-free and hard-wearing

With high concentricity accuracy < 0.01 mm and a balance quality of G 2.5 at 25,000 rpm, TRIBOS toolholders meet even the most stringent requirements. Thanks to the rotationally symmetrical design, high speeds are possible and complex dimensional and geometric tolerances are maintained during delicate machining procedures. Because the clamping system operates without moving parts, it is mechanically resistant. Virtually maintenance-free and wear-free clamping is guaranteed. Endurance tests show that even after the clamping procedure has been performed a thousand times, there is no material fatigue and the circularity is fully maintained. This shows that TRIBOS is clearly superior to other clamping technologies, such as ER collets. Virtually maintenance-free and wear-free: the precision toolholders ensure brilliant surfaces, minimal tool wear and high cutting performance in various sectors. TRIBOS has meanwhile developed into the most comprehensive product line for high-precision tool clamping.
