Improved performance with Silent Tools™ cushioned technology and lighter, shorter head

Cutting tool and tool system specialist Sandvik Coromant introduces a new generation of CoroBore^® 825 cushioned fine boring tools. The system utilizes Silent Tools™ technology, with dampers specifically sized for each adapter size in the range and to provide maximum operator performance. This solution not only increases process reliability where vibration problems are often encountered - such as when machining with long cutout lengths - it improves productivity because cutting data can be substantially increased.

One of the main differences of the latest generation of tools is the change of the boring head material, from steel to aluminum. In addition, the head has been shortened so that the damper is closer to the cutting edge, which is beneficial for process stability.

"Internal channels are used to supply coolant directly to the cutting edge, which is another factor contributing to improved surface finish, higher penetration rates and greater process reliability," said Jenny Nilsson, Global Product Manager at Sandvik Coromant. "The new generation of tools will offer optimum performance and stability with one standard adaptive item on the machine tool side - to allow the tool to be used in a steep taper, HSK or Coromant Capto^® pivot. Further extensions will reduce stability and performance." 

The CoroTurn^® change plate carriers for the new tools have set-up angles of 92-95°. This design increases stability thanks to reduced deflection of the tool assembly, making it possible to approach the bottom of a blind hole without engaging a larger portion of the cutting edge.

CoroBore 825 is ideal for all fine boring applications and covers diameters from 19 to 167 mm (0.748 to 6.575 inches), while a new range of cassettes can be used for draw boring applications. During draw boring, the same internal cooling flow to the cutting edge is provided as in conventional boring.
