Kennametal introduces its Mill 4-12KT the next generation of tangential shoulder mills

New tangential shoulder cutters with an innovative triangular base design that provides cutting edges with exceptional strength

Kennametal today announced its new Mill 4-12KT, the next generation of tangential shoulder mills, which produces high-quality surfaces for almost all applications in steel and cast iron.

The innovative triangular base provides cutting edges with exceptional strength.

"The Mill 4-12KT consumes 15% lower cutting forces, an important consideration with Type 40-cone lower power tooling," said Tim Marshall, Senior Global Product Manager. "That allows customers to work with higher feed rates without putting additional stress on the spindle. And in longer cutout length situations or where workpiece attachment is not optimal, lower powers are identical to less vibration, less cutting edge chipping and better surface finishes."

Mill 4-12KT milling plate holders are available in medium and coarse teeth.

Mill 4-12KT has tangentially mounted change plates with four cutting edges per change plate for lower tooling costs. Seven nose radii from 0.016" (0.4 mm) to 0.12" (3.1 mm) are available, along with internal coolant feed, medium and coarse teeth from 2" (50 mm) to 8" (200 mm) in diameter. With an axial depth of cut from 0.019" to 0.472" (0.5 to 12 mm), Mill 4-12KT covers most shoulder milling applications.

Multiple factors contribute to significant performance increases even under aggressive cutting conditions: The tangential "on-edge" inserts design also allows the insert to take advantage of thickness strength, more so than radially mounted inserts found on traditional cutters.

Thanks to the design with shallow plate seats, the core of the milling body is very robust.

The axial and radial designs of the supporting seat surfaces provide exceptional stability.

The Mill 4-12KT is the perfect addition to Kennametal's existing portfolio for shoulder milling cutters. This includes the Mill 4-11 and Mill 4-15 cutters, which are known for their ability to produce surfaces with high-quality surface finishes on sides.
