Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence division recently released the RS6 laser scanner: a state-of-the-art 3D laser scanner for the new generation of portable Absolute Arm measuring arm systems released in 2018. This new laser scanner enables point cloud acquisition at high speed and accuracy with extremely high density capability. The RS6 brings unparalleled improvements in productivity when compared to competing scanning solutions. All due to the introduction of SHINE; an advanced set of algorithms that allows the RS6 to measure with the highest possible quality and accuracy setting.
The RS6 laser scanner has a mid-range scan line width of 150 millimeters, which compared to previous generation Absolute Arm laser scanner is an increase of more than 30 percent. With a three times higher frame rate of up to 300 Herz, the scanner also measures much faster than its predecessors. This means that scans can be performed three times faster without loss of detail.
"The problem with high-performance laser scanners is often that while their advertised acquisition speeds may seem exceptional, in practice that performance actually turns out to be nothing special," said Anthony Vianna, the Product Manager for Absolute Arm systems. "With the RS6, we deliver a scanner that does not disappoint the user. Our new SHINE technology ensures that users can always scan at full speed with the full laser width on all components."
This new SHINE technology means that the RS6 is better and easier to use than competing scanners. With SHINE, the RS6 is always ready to scan any material with complete accuracy without limitations in frame rate, scan line width or data quality. It does not require complicated combinations of settings depending on accuracy and surface type.
Like the RS5 laser scanner, the RS6 can be removed from the arm in seconds for easier access when the scanner is not in use. Thanks to the innovative mounting system, the scanner can be put back in place without recalibrating. The RS6 also features a unique laser aiming grid designed to make measurement alignment easier. Combined with the many built-in utility features in the new generation of Absolute Arm models, the RS6 aims to make scanning easier and better.
"This is an exciting launch as we take the scanning performance of the 7-axis Absolute Arm to the next level without compromising on ease of use," said Stephan Amann, the Business Director for the Absolute Arm series. "We wanted to offer a scanner where every user can simply pick up the scanner and measure with it without worrying about settings. All this with perfect data quality, regardless of the user's experience."
The RS6 laser scanner can be ordered worldwide immediately from local Hexagon representatives. The scanner can be purchased as a complete system with the new 7-axis Absolute Arm, and as an upgrade for previously purchased current generation 7-axis Absolute Arm systems.
