The Jan van Dam Group continues to expand its services. The firm consists of two companies: Jan van Dam Machine Transport for road transport and Jan van Dam Global Machine Logistics (GML) for sea freight and air transport. They are not only responsible for transporting machines and production lines, but also for customs clearance, storage, packaging, disassembly and assembly. Today, the specialist goes one step further to completely unburden its customers: it brings in its own technically trained mechanics to carry out the mechanical installation and possibly connect robots and other automation solutions to machines.
Companies call on an external partner for industrial relocations, deliveries of machinery from a factory or the temporary storage of systems. This is sometimes around the corner, but more often further afield, even to the other side of the world. The Jan van Dam Group offers a total concept for machine transport and over the years has built a strong reputation with customers in the most diverse sectors, such as machine construction, metalworking, steel construction, industry, engineering, but also the food industry and civil applications.
"We aim for long-term relationships, based on qualitative and reliable handling of complete projects, in other words the complete unburdening of customers," sales manager Kasper Kraan explains. "Take overseas transports, for example. If you have the various phases of such a transport carried out by different partners, a lot of paperwork arises. Jan van Dam takes care of the entire transport process."
"However, we perform much more than transportation. Customers can come to us for packing and unpacking, even the disassembly and assembly of machines and entire production lines. Furthermore, we also specialize in the complete handling of container shipments: stripping or stuffing, unpacking or packing of goods, including the transport of all kinds of containers. We even arrange all customs and tax formalities, and have several spaces for temporary storage in Oudewater, in the Rotterdam port area and in Bergen-op-Zoom." These are the group's three locations.
For all these tasks, the Jan van Dam Group can count on a team of experienced and enthusiastic employees and has the most advanced trucks and techniques for transporting, loading and unloading machines. After all, such projects can really be a complex story.
"However, we want to go one step further to serve our customers. For example, we can build production lines completely, together with one of the customer's mechanics or even completely on our own. Indeed, we are increasingly being asked if we can include the mechanical installation of machines or production lines. We also note that more and more companies are taking the step toward automation. This is why we now also assemble robots and other automation systems to machines."
"Take an installation with a welding robot. Then our mechanic measures the entire installation, disassembles the machine and moves it. At the new location, the same technician reassembles and aligns the machine. The customer then only has to deal with the control software," Kasper Kraan explains. "Today we have a team of mechanics who can provide this service. However, we want to expand this service further and are therefore looking for suitable people to join our team. A certain technical baggage is required, but we will of course provide further training ourselves."
