Deburring machines VG Machines offer sheet metal workers total package

Summa Surface, distributor of VG Machinery in the Benelux, proudly tells about this line of deburring machines, which can automate various finishing operations, such as deburring, belt sanding, grinding, edge rounding, stripping, brushing and finishing.Cutting or punching metal sheet parts creates sharp edges and unwanted burrs. This requires finishing. Companies in the sheet metal processing industry recognize several challenges. For example, how to eliminate expensive manual finishing operations? How to easily sand away hard burrs? How to provide edge rounding to meet specifications when coating and ensure safe handling of sheet metal parts? How to apply a tight hairline finish or ground plate finish? How to remove metal slag after plasma or autogenous cutting? Sheet metal processors want efficient solutions to address these challenges. The solution should reduce labor time, increase the safety of the work environment and meet aesthetic and quality requirements. There is a need for a process where products meet all finishing requirements in a controlled manner.

Multifunction deburring machine

"Deburring and breaking sharp edges is increasingly a must: rounded burr-free sheet metal parts are the new standard," says Thijs Carlier, owner of Summa Surface. For example, a sufficiently thick preservation layer must adhere to all edges to prevent rusting. This is only achieved if the cut edges are free of burrs and have a nice radius. In addition to technical specifications, sheet metal parts often have to meet aesthetic requirements, such as a clean polished finish. Occupational health and safety aspects are also important. Creating a pleasant and safe working environment for employees is crucial. Manual finishing operations are not always done safely and are ergonomically challenging. Safe handling of sheet metal parts is a requirement, as rounded sheet metal parts no longer injure people on cutting edges during assembly processes. There is also the economic factor: manual finishing operations are costly. Not surprisingly, companies benefit from automated machine technology that meets all these specifications.

TS machine: modular design

The new TS machine from VG Machinery jumps on the need in the market for deburring machines that can be used flexibly. Thijs Carlier explains, "We see that companies want a machine that can be used for multiple purposes. One that removes metal slag after plasma or oxyfuel cutting, but also grinds away hard starting points from fiber laser cutting and removes burrs. In addition, a nice radius needs to be applied to the cutting edges. With the modular TS machine, we can serve these customers perfectly."

The TS series is a compact modular machine used for processing sheet metal parts after laser cutting, water cutting, plasma cutting, autogenous cutting, milling or punching. Various finishing operations can be provided in one pass: deburring, sanding, edge rounding, metal slag removal or finishing. Depending on customer requirements, the necessary modules are incorporated into the machine.

The broadband sanding module removes bumps such as burn-in points and burrs. Next, the top brush module applies a nice constant radius to the cutting edges. The third module can be chosen to achieve a nice hairline finish with a scotch-brite brush roller, for example.

In the compact machine, the sanding belt is followed by four oscillating top brushes.

Strong asset

The top brush module is a strong asset, according to Carlier. It consists of 2×2 top brushes, which oscillate over the entire width of the machine. "Especially this module makes the machine so flexible to use, since many types of top brushes can be mounted. Plasma cutters often need only one top brush module. In that case, on the first row of brushes, we use the so-called slag meppers that knock away the metal slag. On the second row, we place two deburring brushes that remove the remaining burrs and round off the edges. In the case of laser cutters, we deploy the four deburring brushes so as to apply a larger radius."

Even small parts remain fixed

Companies prefer one machine on which both large sheets and small parts can be fed. After all, efficient use of working space is important, so two separate machines are often not preferred. The TS machine comes standard with a supergrip feedthrough belt on which products are well fixed. In addition, the pressure rollers between the modules press the products firmly against the belt. For extra fixation of very small parts or parts with many recesses, an optional magnetic zone (ferrous material) or vacuum in the feedthrough belt (ferrous and nonferrous) is available.

Solution for every budget

Thijs Carlier: "VG offers the perfect price/quality mix. Given the choice of modules, we can offer customers with any budget a solution. Customers who do not yet have the volume to recoup a throughput machine in the short term, we offer a semi-automatic deburring table. Often this is a perfect intermediate step to a feed-through machine."

The Disc Arm Grinder (DAG) is such a mobile deburring table. At the balance arm of the DAG machine, one of the two rotary machining heads is always operated. By means of a simple turning movement on the arm, one switches between the processing heads on which the same type of top brushes can be mounted as in the TS machine.

Total package

Summa Surface offers companies a total solution with the VG machines. "In addition to the range in through-feed machines, which range from 150mm to 1,330mm width, VG also manufactures the corresponding extraction systems in-house. We complete the total package with infeed and outfeed tables or conveyors to transport products from the rear of the machine to the front. One-stop shopping is often preferred as this unburdens our customers: everything from one party is convenient and clear."

At VG Machinery in Kuurne (B), test treatments are provided for customers. In addition, Summa Surface regularly organizes house fairs in the south of the Netherlands, where relations from the Benelux have their samples processed and are introduced to the possibilities of the VG range.
