Welec: 'Ready for the future with SafanDarley'

After twenty years working for an international installation company, WIlly Eyckmans felt the time was right to start his own company. He started Welec Electro Techniek on April 1, 1991 in a back room and garden in the Belgian town of Voortkapel. Now the company in Westerlo has some 180 employees who provide high-quality total solutions for electrical applications in industry. "Welec stands for Willy Eyckmans Elektriciteits werken," Eyckmans says in the handsome company building in Westerlo, about sixty kilometers south of the Breda-Tilburg line. "Welec has always emphasized making good arrangements and a good service policy: 24/7."

Consequently, the company experienced constant growth: annual turnover is now 20 million euros. "We specialized in electrical installations, initially mainly for companies in the local area. But as those companies got bigger and needed more complex installations, Welec grew with them."

Investment

Because of that constant growth and to optimize sheet metal processing for the Sign Construction Department, Eykmans went to the market to look for the right investment for his company. "After visiting a number of trade fairs at home and abroad, we came into contact with SafanDarley. At the seller's invitation, we visited SafanDarley. Here we became convinced of the sublime quality of their machines," says the entrepreneur. Eykmans did not go overnight. "SafanDarley is not the cheapest on the market, but we opted for integrated safety, energy savings and shorter cycle times. Now, with SafanDarley, we have machines that always offer good quality. Moreover, the package also provided training for employees. Our designer-draftsmen and also the chief operator went into training."

Options

With this investment, Welec's machinery is now fully CNC-controlled. "All our sheet handling - aluminum, copper, stainless steel and steel and in particular our plastic sheets - can now be handled quickly and correctly. From our EPLAN or Autocad drawings, we can control the CNC machines. The system manages a material and stock list. With SafanDarley, we are now really ready for the future."
