TRUMPF joins Quantum Technology & Application Consortium

The Quantum Technology & Application Consortium (QUTAC) has a new member: in addition to the 12 existing members, high-tech company TRUMPF will be involved in the industrial use of quantum computing as part of the consortium.

"With the high-tech company TRUMPF, we welcome another highly innovative German company to QUTAC, which will bring essential application areas of quantum computing from mechanical engineering, network manufacturing and laser technology to our consortium," explained Jörn Messner, Chairman of the QUTAC Executive Committee and CEO of Lufthansa Industry Solutions. "This brings us a decisive step closer to an economically successful quantum computing ecosystem and digital sovereignty in Germany and Europe."

Within QUTAC, TRUMPF will initially be involved in the Production &Logistics and Quantum Systems working groups. In these, the Ditzingen-based company will focus on the development of a number of quantum computing applications. The focus is on optimizing machine utilization in production, image processing through machine learning and the possible acceleration of machine learning through quantum computing. In addition, TRUMPF is exploring the use of quantum computing to simulate heat input during laser cutting and improve the automation of production facilities.

By joining the consortium, we are consistently continuing our previous commitment in this field and want to contribute to making quantum computing usable for industry," said Frederick Struckmeier, who is responsible for quantum computing applications at TRUMPF.
