Save time and reduce costs with the right tool selection

The efficiency of machining operations depends largely on the tool. Paul Horn has everything it takes to help its customers make the right choices that save time and costs and increase quality and productivity. You can learn about them at the upcoming edition of the EMO. Three eye-catchers at booth A01 in hall 25 are the new MKD cone cutters, the tool system 117 with profiled cutting plates and the new clamping system for the Supermini holder.

Milling with MKD (holocrystalline diamond) tools makes savings from polishingprocesses in the manufacture of free-form surfaces. The new larger diameter variants reduce machining time, ensure compliance with the tightest tolerances and lead to surface quality in the nanometer range. Horn offers the extensive range of MKD ball milling cutters in stock. The diameters 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm and 16 mm are suitable for additional applications. All variants are single-cut and equipped with an internal coolant supply. The solid carbide tool shanks allow swivel- and vibration-free machining. High-gloss milling has many application possibilities. Especially in tool and die construction, this procedure saves polishing work and at the same time increases quality in precision, contour accuracy, flatness and surface quality.

Lower tooling costs, less machine downtime

Drilling with profiled tools offers economic advantages in series production. Based on the tool system 117, Horn offers profiled cutting plates according to customer requirements that are suitable for turning and milling machines with diameters from 16 mm. The patented precision plate seat of the system 117 guarantees high rounding and flattening precision and changeover precision. The precision ground cutting edges ensure high precision and surface quality. Cost savings are achieved through refilling, lower tool costs and reduced machine downtime. Contact zone cooling and chip removal protects the internal coolant-
feed through the round shank holder on both cutting edges. Horn offers the tools in mold widths (w) 16 mm, 20 mm and 26 mm. The maximum forming depth is 17 mm, maximum forming width 26 mm. The tool coating is specially selected for each application and is available for the material groups P, M, K and N. The round shank holders are available as standard with shank diameters 16 mm, 20 mm and 25 mm and design types A and E. All variants feature an internal coolant supply.

Higher holding power of the cutting plate

Horn has developed a new holder system for the Type 105 Supermini. With the new clamping system, instead of using the sheath surface of the tool, a tension wedge is used at the front. This leads to a higher holding force of the cutting plate and thus a high rigidity of the entire system. This new clamping system also increases the repeat precision when changing the cutting plate and provides better utilization of the available construction space by front operation. This is a great advantage in long-turn machining because the user can change the cutting tool without having to disassemble the toolholder. When machining bores between 0.2 mm and 8 mm in diameter, the Horn tool system Supermini is suitable for many machining tasks with over 1,500 variants as standard. The system is used for turning out, slotting, chamfering, thread cutting, groove cutting and other machining operations. Cutting geometries and substrates can be matched to the materials being machined.
