Most powerful plasma cutting system for digital production

The Q4500 plasma cutting source from Kjellberg Finsterwalde received its baptism of fire at last year's EuroBLECH. At the upcoming Schweissen & Schneiden, too, this newest member of the Q-series will undoubtedly score high marks. After all, it combines the power needed for flawless results in thicker work with everything metalworkers need to walk into the digital age. Because with the data provided by the Q Series, you can further reduce the cutting cost per meter yet again.

The most powerful plasma cutting system for digitized production. That is the label pinned on the Q4500 from Kjellberg Finsterwalde after the last edition of the EuroBLECH. Since the beginning of June, the latest addition to the Q series has also been available to customers. "The first customers are already using it with great satisfaction. In the coming months, many more systems will be delivered and put into operation," summarizes Jan Van Overbeeke of distributor Plasma Solutions.

Top performance, in thin and thick material

The Q Series combines plasma cutting of the highest precision with the complex requirements of Industry 4.0. With a cutting power that goes up to 450 A, the Q4500 enables users to make high-precision plasma cuts up to 120 mm. The high cutting speeds allow you to reduce costs and increase efficiency. Precision holes with a ratio of 0.75:1 (ratio of hole diameter to material thickness) are possible with the special Q-hole technology. Add to that Kjellberg's proven Contour Cut technology, which ensures precise inside and outside contours even in mild steel, and you can see where that enthusiasm at launch came from. Van Overbeeke: "The Q4500 continues the excellent cutting quality of the Q series and even sets new standards for processing mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum, even in material thicknesses up to 120 mm."

Process data in real-time

Cutting performance is not the only reason to buy the Q4500. When it comes to digital production, too, the new Kjellberg scion shows itself to be the cream of the crop. With the presence of HMI Q-Desk, a Kjellberg proprietary development, you get everything you need for digitized production.

"Process data and information from all system components are visualized in real-time on a smartphone, tablet or PC. To transmit that essential data securely, the MQTT protocol is used. The integrated Kjellberg eService ensures the reliability of your plasma cutting production through remote diagnosis, remote monitoring and regular updates," said Van Overbeeke.

Insight lays foundation for cost reduction

Data that gives you something, by the way. "The more data, the more insight. Step by step we are trying to further reduce the cutting cost per meter. On the one hand by optimizing gas consumption, but that involves more than just the plasma source. The best guarantee of the lowest possible gas consumption is a perfect interaction with the control of the cutting table and the control of the robot. Hence the importance of connectivity."

On the other hand, Kjellberg Finsterwalde also invests very heavily in research to increase the tool life of wear parts. "Especially with the trend toward thicker cutting and the associated high cutting currents and powers, this is still a challenge. But we are working on it. Just as we see a continuous evolution of small improvements in cutting quality each time. Very often this relates to cutting small holes," Van Overbeeke concludes.
