EcoSourcen innovation division splits off from Cordeel Group with eco-tech solutions for both B2B and B2C

Eco-tech specialist offers total package of sustainable solutions with new Redox Flow battery and hydrogen power group as first European player

EcoSourcen, the innovation division within the Cordeel Group, is being acquired by entrepreneur and ex-politician Dany Bosteels and his two sons. EcoSourcen thus becomes a family business and is the first European player to offer a total package of eco-tech solutions for both the B2B and B2C markets. Using Belgian technology, the company developed a Redox Flow battery as a sustainable alternative to the lithium-ion battery, which is being launched in mass production in Europe, and it is also working on a new hydrogen power group that can replace polluting and inefficient yard generators.

EcoSourcen has existed for 20 years as the innovation department of the Cordeel Group, but was bought in half by Dany Bosteels and his sons Floris and Raf in 2019. After introducing several innovative initiatives and creating a dozen companies within the department in two years, the father and sons bought out the Cordeel Group in June this year to enjoy even more freedom with a view to continued innovation.

"We are first and foremost a family business: all ideas and patents are created literally and figuratively at the kitchen table," states Dany Bosteels, the new CEO of EcoSourcen. "We believe in a world where everyone has access to an ample supply of energy resources, regardless of background or location. That access should be provided without burdening society, without making energy a source of geopolitical power and without any hypocrisy in communication, based solely on science-based facts."

Industrial landscape revitalized

EcoSourcen was adopted primarily with the goal of completely transforming the current building landscape and is aimed at anyone seeking solutions for an affordable, fast and efficient energy transition.

Dany Bosteels explains, "EcoSourcen is the only company in Europe that looks at a total package of sustainable solutions: it is an and-story with a pragmatic approach. We want to help companies address their ESG issues. We therefore believe not in one solution, but in several complementary ones. You can describe it as a big orchard where we pick the appropriate fruit depending on the needs."

Floris Bosteels, the new CTO of EcoSourcen, adds, "We believe in different sources because there are different solutions that each have their own field of application. Hence the name EcoSource to the nth power."

Dany, with his visionary leadership, and Floris, with expertise in ecological solutions, boast extensive R&D experience. Thus, the founders have already developed solutions for energy storage via vanadium batteries or energy mounds, desalination solutions, fuel cells and cement-free concrete. Those creations led to seven international patents and numerous strategic licenses.

New Redox Flow battery and Hydrogen FCSS

The company recently developed a Vanadium Redox Flow battery that is being launched in mass production in Europe for the first time in that size and type using Belgian technology. This 8 kilowatt 40 kilowatt-hour indoor and outdoor battery serves as storage for renewable energy sources and is intended for homeowners who want to be as independent as possible from the grid and SMEs. The battery offers a discharge depth of 100% with no negative impact on battery life or capacity. Moreover, unlike lithium, the electrolyte used for the battery is completely green, easily recyclable at the end of its life and non-flammable. Later this year, the founders will also launch a new hydrogen power generator, "Hydrogen FCSS" (Fuel Cell & Storage System), as an alternative to diesel generators in shipyards by generating electricity and heat from hydrogen on site. The fuel cell provides energy while the battery provides power. The solution is not only completely CO2-free when using green hydrogen, but also eliminates NOx emissions.

"We deal with R&D and the technical aspect, and our various divisions, which focus on Redox Flow batteries, electrification of yards and energy hills, among others, market the ideas and make them operational. We also have partners. The first adopted advisor of the board is Roelof Platenkamp, former Vice President and Director at Shell EP International, to provide support to us at the global level. We look forward to these and future collaborations and projects," concludes Dany Bosteels

About EcoSourcing

EcoSourcen was previously half part of the Cordeel Group and half purchased by Dany Bosteels and his sons Floris and Raf. However, since June 2023, the Bosteels family decided to separate completely from the Cordeel Group and EcoSourcen now operates as an independent family business. The goal is to create and develop ecological solutions in different areas from different sources to provide a decisive answer to global energy challenges. EcoSourcen has six employees, along with several international partners and joint ventures for each subsidiary. In total, the organization consists of six divisions: ES Flow, ES Machinery, ES Hydro, ES China, ES Hills, ES Integrations and ES Assets.
