Calculate all cutting and performance data for drilling, turning, milling with one app

Previously, he often had to consult bulky books for this purpose, but with the Hoffmann Machining Calculator, all data is immediately available on a smartphone or tablet. Based on a few parameters, the app calculates the speed and feed rate or gets all relevant power values. In addition, this online tool includes a direct link to ToolScout, the Hoffmann Group's tool database.

The Hoffmann Group, known worldwide for its quality tools for cutting, machining, clamping and grinding, its personal protective equipment (PPE) and business design solutions, is also writing a digital story today with the development of several apps, which can be downloaded for free via the Google Playstore or Appstore. One example is the new Machining Calculator, an app to allow customers to calculate tool-independent cutting and performance data online and offline for the manufacturing processes of drilling, turning, milling and TPC milling. A user-friendly interface allows that customer to navigate quickly and uncomplicated.

Cutting and performance calculation

"If the user enters diameter, cutting speed and feed per revolution - in milling, also the number of cutting edges - the app calculates the RPM and feed rate and can then be adjusted to the machine parameters. In the case of TPC milling, one enters diameter, ae/D ratio and maximum clamping thickness, after which our tool calculates, among other things, the feed per tooth and the cutting angle," explains Carlos Cappelle, machining specialist at Hoffmann Group. "In the 'Performance Calculation' screen, after selecting material and entering other production parameters - for example, in drilling, the number of cutting edges, the top angle and the drilling depth - one can calculate all relevant power values, including spindle power, clamping volume and head time, as well as torque, cutting arc angle and cutting force. Of course, these performance calculations are always 100% theoretical. Finally, you will also find the iso-passing system. For that, select the function key 'Tolerances' at the bottom of the home screen, fill in some fields and thus get the result directly, which you otherwise have to search for in a table book."

ToolScout

The Machining Calculator app also includes a link to ToolScout, the online open-source database where the user can quickly and easily find the appropriate tools for milling, drilling, turning and threading workpieces, as well as the appropriate measuring and testing technology. The integrated library includes tools from GARANT and HOLEX, as well as from other manufacturers such as Komet, Kyocera and Stahlwille. However, there is much more, as the database also includes application data and tool and material information, with which one can optimally plan the production process.
