Accessible cam system gets very best out of your 5-axle vehicle

We hardly need to highlight the impact of good CAM software on cycle efficiency. In addition to gains in cycle time and tool autonomy, knowledge assurance and strategy automation are undeniable strengths. With hyperMill®, software maker OPEN MIND Technologies now adds a rock-solid NC code-based simulation program for 5-axis milling. The "Virtual Machining" solution proactively, efficiently generates optimized and collision-free milling paths.

OPEN MIND was founded in 1994, and currently employs about 350 people. Worldwide, the company has sixteen branches. Dolf Broekaart leads the Benelux branch in the Netherlands with eleven employees, OPEN MIND Technologies Benelux. Broekaart: "From the beginning, OPEN MIND has been the pioneer in the development of CAM software for simultaneous 5-axis milling."

To this end, the software developer can rely on a good cooperation with both machine and tool suppliers. OPEN MIND Technologies Benelux itself supports the customer optimally via an active helpdesk, constantly manned by two of the nine technicians, each of whom can present a rich pedigree in machining.
OPEN MIND is permanently engaged in research, from which a series of patents have resulted over the years. Innovative strategies are therefore systematically implemented in OPEN MIND products.

Thus hyperCAD-S®, a typical CAD-for-CAM software whose very accessible interface was clearly designed for the CAM user, was also created. This leads to more specific solutions in the extensive automation of the programming process within hyperMILL®, which drastically reduces the programming lead time.

The 'Virtual Machining' option within hyperMILL® adopts the machine's kinematic model. This so-called 'Digital Twin' autonomously provides the optimal job-linking between the different machining surfaces. Just think of certain swiveling movements, or combinations where the cutter stays as close as possible around the product in order to perform all operations with as few retractions as possible. Sales Manager Belgium Eljakim Blokland: "All this can be done with hyperMILL® in a very efficient way, and even proactively."
