Experience, flexibility and growth
Unil Lubricants has been at the service of its customers since 1903, seeking answers to today's demands and questions, looking to the future. Founded as Elbe nv, with family shareholders, the company has experienced strong development since its inception. At the beginning of the 1970s, it was therefore necessary to move and occupy a larger production site: the current site in St-Pieters-Leeuw.
In 1968, Elbe became part of the alliance UNIL, which reached from North Africa to the Netherlands. Steadily, this alliance evolved into a brand name, and since then the company has carried the name Unil instead of Elbe.
Its growth did not go unnoticed, attracting the attention of petrochemical giant Shell, which bought the company in 1993. For several years, the company has been part of the French Cipeliagroup, the leading independent lubricants group in Western Europe. Although the company had previously been expanded twice, production capacity was gradually saturated, and an investment program was initiated in 2012, with the aim of tripling production capacity again by 2015. Additional land and a building have already been purchased. In 2013, additional tank storage will be commissioned, as well as new blending software. In 2014, after obtaining the necessary permits, the operating area will therefore be tripled.
