Efficiency and safety with innovative pallet changer

The SPP series pallet changer is the innovative addition to the Zimmer Group's range of zero-point clamping systems. It offers new, efficient automation capabilities in a variety of applications, including changing clamping plates in machine tools and handling components in gantries or on robots with high repeat accuracy. Its high tensile and holding force makes it an exceptionally rigid system, which guarantees maximum torques and a highly precise connection between robot and chuck, resulting in an improvement in the handling of especially heavy pallets. The pallet changer's constructive design enables clamping without pneumatic pressure. The clamping force can be increased by an additional pressure at the PLUS joint. 

Slim design, maximum holding power, maximum performance 

The clamping system consists of the pallet changer, the pallet clutch and the clamping plate with zero-point clamping system mounted on the machine table. The changer is equipped with four rotary safeguards and forms the interface between robot and pallet clutch. The pallet changer locks form-fitted like the zero-point tensioning system via tensioning segments specially adapted to the bolt contour. This creates an extremely rigid system. 

The pallet coupling in turn serves to connect to the clamping plate. When connecting to the product, the rotation safeguards guarantee precise orientation and absorb moments. As an alternative to the pallet coupling, only one clamping bolt and two pins for the turn locks can also be inserted into the clamping plate.

The slim design and low construction consisting of clamping plate and pallet allow operation from the immediate vicinity of the machine table, and ensure full utilization of the machine space. High clamping forces and the use of hardened stainless steel guarantee the safe handling of heavy pallets and give the system high rigidity, which guarantees maximum torques and a precise connection between robot and clamping plate. Thus, the highest forces can be absorbed with maximum repetition accuracy.

Integrated cleaning function for safe handling

Safety comes first with the pallet changer. In addition to the four rotation safeguards, the system has a cleaning function. The exhaust or cleaning function of the exchanger prevents dirt or deposits from accumulating in the bolt holder, contact surface and rotary safeguards. Integrated sensors can additionally take over a monitoring function with interrogation of piston position and tension bolt. Piston position interrogation and clamping position monitoring can make an additional contribution to safe production processes.
