Rittal presents edge computing for smart industries

Turn-key edge data center for successful digitization

The digital transformation and the increasing importance of data in production stimulate the need for new data centers, with rapidly available provenance data. For this purpose, Rittal presents its innovative edge computing systems. These can be used in the most specialized industries. The TS IT racks that make up the edge data centers are also the world standard in network and server technology.

Smart applications in all industries - from Smart Healthcare to Smart Finance - demand short latency times, continuous data availability and security across the entire system. Added to this are industry-specific requirements, such as particularly high physical protection in harsh production environments. Rittal's edge data centers meet these requirements in a wide range of application areas.

Edge in practice: Smart Industry
To fully reap the benefits of increasing automation through intelligent robots and networked machines in manufacturing, IT systems are needed. Sensors generate constant streams of data. By analyzing that data, companies can optimize production processes, test and improve product features or prepare Predictive Maintenance scenarios. The Secure Edge Data Center (SEDC) from Rittal, HPE and ABB can be connected to Intelligent 4.0 machines for fast and secure data processing, scaled to the individual needs of each enterprise.

Edge computing

Smart Finance for secure banking transactions
Cryptocurrencies, blockchain or cashless transactions are driving innovations in the financial sector. To use the associated new technologies, secure and powerful IT systems are again required. Edge data centers in strategic proximity to financial service providers enable the shortest response times and secure automation of transactions. Rittal offers edge and cloud data centers that meet all the requirements of the financial sector up to High Performance Computing (HPC).

Smart Mobility: getting from A to B smartly
Autonomous vehicles, carpooling platforms or intelligent logistics software are changing the mobility and transportation sector. Autonomous vehicles are becoming a kind of networked supercomputers, with hundreds of sensors, generating and processing a gigantic amount of data. The aviation and rail industries are also increasingly digitizing their services. This requires modern IT infrastructures capable of processing large amounts of data in real time at locations such as logistics hubs, Smart Cities or airports. For that decentralized build-up of IT capabilities, edge data centers are ideally suited. Only they offer the short latency times needed for real-time communication between IT systems.

Rittal's SMDC (Scalable Modular Data Center) solution in collaboration with IBM, guarantees the shortest response times, essential for smart, workable and useful processing of all kinds of mobility data.

Edge computing

Smart solutions for better health
An intelligent network already exists in health care between pharmacies, hospitals, insurance companies and health care providers. The patient data stored in that network require maximum protection against unauthorized access. At the same time, they must be available very readily. For example, doctors in operating rooms must be able to quickly rely on accurate data, while in diagnostic imaging it is important to be able to quickly process large amounts of data in different locations. An edge data center can process that confidential information directly on-site and offers a very high level of security. In this way, healthcare quality increases and costs can be saved.

With the Micro Data Center, Rittal presents an IT environment with maximum physical protection including access control and fire protection, an absolute must when it comes to protecting patient data.

TS IT racks
The edge data centers are based on the TS IT rack, an intelligent building box system. The reduced complexity and the assembly-friendly snap-in technology ensure significantly more efficiency in ordering and assembly, and thus lower costs. The TS IT racks have a high load capacity (up to 1500 kg), sophisticated cable management and door concept with split rear doors. With its comprehensive standardized basic design, the TS IT rack from Rittal meets almost all requirements for network enclosures and server racks. Depending on the application, these racks are further equipped with cooling, monitoring, access control, power distribution or emergency power supplies.
