One innovation does not make spring. Yamazaki Mazak is already unpacking two new versions of its machining machines that help customers push their limits. The INTEGREX i-500 Multi-Tasking machine is specially designed to further expand the capacity of its highly successful i-series and perfectly meets the growing demand for high-precision machining for larger workpieces. In turn, Yamazaki Mazak's highly versatile VTC-800/30SR is ideal for aerospace and all-round machining applications. It is a vertical machining center with movable column capable of simultaneous five-axis contouring.

The INTEGREX i-500 can load workpieces up to a maximum length of 3 m and comes standard with a 10″ chuck, however 12″, 15″ and 18″ are also available as options. Suitable for machining parts up to Ø700 mm, the i-500 features an increased X-axis stroke of 845 mm combined with a large Y-axis capacity of 430 mm, making it ideal for handling large complex workpieces. The i-500 is equipped with a high-powered 37 kW rotary spindle with a speed of 2,500 rpm and a newly developed compact 24 kW milling spindle with a speed of 12,000 rpm, which reduces interference and increases the machining area. An NC counterpoint is standard, while optional goggles are also available in six different sizes, up to Ø410 mm. Other models feature a sub-spindle and a lower turret for enhanced single fixturing capabilities.

As with all Mazak five-axis machines, the INTEGREX i-500 can be easily operated through Mazak's revolutionary SmoothX: the world's fastest CNC. SMOOTH CNC includes a number of advanced features, such as Smooth Machining Configuration, which makes it easy to improve machining efficiency through touch-screen sliders. Operators can also access five other machines through an intuitive touch-screen interface for information on programming, tool data, machine configuration, machining and maintenance. One of the strengths of the INTEGREX i-500 is its ability to meet the growing demand for gearing. The addition of SMOOTH Gear Cutting software to the i-500 combines advanced Multi-Tasking functionality with Mazak's latest developments in gear manufacturing processes, including SMOOTH gear cutters and SMOOTH unwinding cutters. High accuracy is guaranteed as all machine components are designed with maximum rigidity, while ease of use is included thanks to a front-mounted 36-tool tool changer that allows tool maintenance during the machining cycle. The i-500 is also easy to attach to an automation system thanks to a range of plug-and-play robot interfaces and automation options such as, for example, an automatic door.

Compact powerhouse

Designed specifically for machining long and heavy workpieces, the popular VTC-800 / 30SR features a fixed bed that not only allows parts to overhang without interfering with machine guarding, but the machine also offers a large machining range with comparatively small floor space. Maximum productivity is provided by the high-speed 18,000 rpm 35 kW (50% ED) milling spindle. The spindle is equipped with a swiveling B-axis, which in combination with the NC rotary table offers full five-axis simultaneous machining with reduced set-up times on complex workpieces and contours. The rotary table offers great flexibility thanks to the possible vertical and horizontal arrangement on the table. It can also be implemented to the right or left. Positioning and repetition accuracy is ensured by a backlash-free Roller Gear Cam. For even more flexibility, you can optionally install an intermediate screen that allows you to commute and thus increase productivity. The VTC-800 30 / SR is equipped with Mazak's revolutionary SmoothX control, designed with the ergonomic comfort of the operator in mind. For this reason, the 19" control panel can be tilted. SMOOTH CNC also includes a number of applications to assist users, including Smooth API (Application Programming Interface), which improves connectivity between the SMOOTH CNC and non-Mazak software, such as complementary automation systems and measurement software.   ν
