What does one know after taking this course?

During this course, you will learn what requirements a machine must meet before it may be CE marked. We cover the implications of the new legislation on design. Risk assessment and the safety measures to be taken are discussed in detail. This - at times - difficult subject matter is handled in a very practical way so that during this training you will gain experience that can be directly applied in your own company.

Introduction

In this training you will receive understanding of the European machinery directive (the requirements of the machinery directive and the CE marking of machinery) and you can determine the impact of this directive on your machine or installation. You will get the ideal preparation to prepare the technical file.

Who is this training intended for?

This training is aimed at designers, assemblers and users of machinery. In addition, those responsible in a production environment, managers and employees involved in the organization of maintenance, prevention advisors, purchasers and importers of machines have every interest in having sufficient knowledge of this machine directive.

Prior Knowledge

A minimum of basic technical knowledge is required.

Program

The program has been adapted to the recent 2006/42/EC directive:

• The European Machinery Directive (general)
• The safety principles to be incorporated in the design of the machine
• Methods of analysis and evaluation of risks in machinery
• Discussion of basic safety requirements concerning risks of a mechanical and electrical nature
• The requirements for control devices, stop devices, function switches and emergency stops
• The role and hierarchy of standards
• Preparation of the technical construction file
• Modifications to existing installations and assemblies of different machines, when modifications are made to an existing machine they should or should not be CE marked
• The content and preparation of the EC declaration

The recently published documents by the European Machinery Safety Working Group regarding emergency stops, among others, are also discussed.

The latest standards are also covered, including the new anti-tampering standard EN ISO 14119.

The evolution regarding the conversion of the current Machinery Directive into a European Regulation is also addressed.
