One name that absolutely stands out in this segment is YCM, which is part of Bender Technology's portfolio. For most metalworkers, the Supermax series will sound very familiar. With the NXV series, they have added a high-performance vertical machining center. Come see it in detail at Machineering.
To be one of the largest machine manufacturers in Taiwan is saying something. The quality of its machines is therefore beyond question. Several times, Yeong Chin Machinery, which nowadays operates its machines under the name YCM on the market, certified with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, among others. Since its founding in 1954, the Taiwanese machine builder has grown into a company with about 700 employees and a factory complex of no less than 158,400 square meters. With its own foundry, a machine shop, two large air-conditioned assembly halls and an extensive R&D department, the company keeps firm control of the entire process to meet the high standards of quality and accuracy it sets. Hence, all machines undergo a very thorough geometric inspection. In addition, they are subjected to a laser measurement for checking and optimizing the measuring systems and a ball-bar test for optimizing the synchronization between the servo systems.
One series that has recently passed these battery tests and checks with flying colors is the NXV. These high-performance vertical machining centers combine high precision with a competitive price. The NXV 1020 A/AM, for example, house all the features needed to achieve high speed and rigidity, such as a wide block guide and plastic counter-guide that provide extra strength and stability. The result? Very high productivity and accuracy. It makes these models the ideal choice for suppliers to the automotive and electronics industries (NXV1020 A) or tool and die makers (NXV1020 AM). The accompanying spindle was also developed and built entirely in-house. For example, it has a built-in cooling system to efficiently dissipate heat and minimize thermal deformations. By default, the spindle is provided with 12,000 rpm. Optionally, a spindle with oil-air lubrication that reaches 12,000 to 15,000 rpm can also be installed.
A key factor in achieving high productivity in "high mix, low volume" production is the tool warehouse. This is where the engineers of YCM therefore the necessary attention to ensure stable, reliable operation for the NXV 1020 A/AM. For example, the door was designed so that no coolant or chips can get inside. Furthermore, an absolute encoder allows the automatic tool changer to achieve high stability and speed. On average, only 1.8 s are needed to change between tools. Depending on the weight of the tools, the speed can of course be adjusted. As standard, the NVX 1020 A/AM received 24 tools. Optionally, this can be expanded to 30 or 40. The exterior of the machine also received a completely new design. With this YCM meets customers' higher aesthetic demands. A full enclosure is provided, with a side window through which chips can be easily removed.
