Material-specific production taps ensure high productivity and process reliability

Material-specific production taps guarantee high productivity and process reliability

High productivity and process reliability. That's what the Dormer material-specific DIN production taps stand for. They are known by the name Shark and can be recognized by the colored ring on the shank. This ring indicates the material for which the tap is especially suitable and makes it easy to select the right tap for the material to be machined.

Shark taps are manufactured from a unique powdered metallurgical tool steel that is different from any other HSS-E-PM. It combines toughness and strength resulting in a much more stable cutting edge. This allows the stud to function at higher temperatures. All this results in higher productivity at a longer tool life.

The black ring taps are available in the geometries with peel cut (E334) and spiralized chip groove (E335) for threading through and blind holes, respectively.

Black ring taps

The Shark series was recently expanded by two new versions for steel types with high tensile strengths exceeding 1,200 N/mm² and titanium alloys, the so-called black ring tapping. The new taps are immediately recognizable by the black ring on the shank. They feature a robust geometry that significantly increases the strength of the cutting edge and contributes to trouble-free, high-quality wire production.

The E335 spiral screw tap supports thread cutting of blind holes up to 1.5xD.

Process security

Johan Bodin, product manager for thread cutting at Dormer Pramet says, "With our black ring taps, we offer customers the ability to machine high-quality workpiece materials with high tensile strength, with outstanding process reliability. Imagine being in the final stage of a complex machining process, threading an expensive component and the tool breaks, or the resulting thread has an incorrect tolerance. Our black-ring taps provide the user with the process certainty needed to prevent this from happening." This expansion strengthens the Shark Line's position as one of the world's leading ranges of HSS high-production machine taps.
