Developments for additional safety in the metal industry

As in any industry, developments follow each other in the metal industry at breakneck speed. Especially when looking at safety, it has increased tremendously in recent years. Given that the metal industry is one of - if not - the largest industry we know within our country, this industry therefore also consists of all kinds of different processes that need to be carried out on a daily basis. This ranges from machining and also processing various raw materials to producing and manufacturing them. The safety of the workers is therefore central to this. Since an accident is always lurking, it is important to properly protect the employees from it. Thus, of course, they are working with and also on heavy machinery, hot metals, not to mention chemicals. For example, what we see particularly is that training for handling certain machines, materials and also situations is more extensive and also used more often. In addition, laws and regulations are also becoming stricter, and we see that the work environment itself is becoming safer and safer.

Laws and regulations

In order to ensure that the working environment in which employees have to work is safe and can be ensured, the right laws and regulations are incredibly important. For example, in recent years we have seen that companies in the metal industry have to meet increasingly strict requirements when it comes to safety and the risks that exist within certain processes. In order to make sure that these laws and regulations are actually complied with, they are periodically reviewed by an independent accredited company. This ensures the safety of workers within the metal industry.

Work environment and use of equipment

As an extension of the above, there are several guidelines and also rules established by law that tell exactly what guidelines a safe work environment must meet. These range from using heavy machinery to securing it. For example, machines should not be accessible to unauthorized persons and should be locked with, for example, a yard fence. In addition, precautions should also be taken to avoid any other situations that could lead to accidents. As a company in the metal industry, it is therefore incredibly important to conduct both operations and work environment according to the set laws and regulations, so that the passage of business processes and also the safety of employees are not compromised.

Staff training and certification

For the most part, the reason why accidents happen in the metal industry is because workers do not know (exactly) what to do. To ensure that workers know exactly what is and is not expected of them, training is hugely important. In fact, in some cases, attending training and obtaining a certificate is mandatory in order to be allowed to work. Especially when it comes to working with heavy machinery, this is incredibly important. What we often see in this regard is that the manufacturer of these machines offers such courses so that they can be worked with safely right from the start.
