New digital services increase machine tool productivity and availability

At the EMO 2019 trade fair in Hanover, Siemens is presenting its latest new services for the digitization of machine tools. With Digital Transformation Awareness & Digital Consulting for Machine Tools, Siemens offers a consulting service for the development of a customized digitalization strategy. In addition to workshops for identifying areas of action and developing a digitization strategy, target group-specific training sessions provide deeper insights and promote broader acceptance of digital transformation.

With Brownfield Connectivity Services, Siemens also offers additional services: via a gateway, users can connect both Sinumerik CNCs and third-party controller and automation solutions to higher-level networks.

Digital Transformation Awareness & Digital Consulting for Machine Tools and Brownfield Connectivity Services are part of the Digital Motion Control Services, through which Siemens aims to support its customers on their specific journey to digitalization.

Thanks to Digital Consulting for Machine Tools, optimization potential can be identified together with the customer. With the "Digitalization Check as a Service," Siemens checks whether a digitization of the machines is possible, after which a concrete implementation plan is drawn up. When the criteria for the "Digitalization Preparation" phase are met, the next step consists of the "implementation" of the digitization solution. "Data and Process Analysis" is then used to identify optimization measures so that production processes can be improved in a targeted manner in the "Optimization" phase. To complete the offer, "Maintenance" ensures the high availability of machines and systems. As an entry into digital transformation, the process of the new service offering Digital Transformation Consulting CNC takes about a week, including preparation and coordination. The focus here is on three days of intensive consultation at the customer's site. During this time period, Siemens experts analyze the existing state of the client's production environment. A digitization strategy is then developed with concrete recommendations for production optimization.

Brownfield Connectivity Services support the connection of third-party controllers and legacy systems to higher-level networks. Siemens experts work with the customer to define the appropriate system architecture tailored to the specific needs. Then the necessary gateway is installed on an industrial PC and the required client for Sinumerik controls is installed on the machine. Data backup before and after installation is optional. Through a Connectivity Maintenance contract, customers can rely on their connection being kept up-to-date through Hotfixes and Service Packs. With the services offered, customers benefit from greater transparency of their production environment, full networking of all existing production machines and parallel data transfer to different target systems.
