Safely stretched: pallet changer SPP from the Zimmer Group

The SPP series pallet changer is the innovative addition to the Zimmer Group's range of zero-point clamping systems. It offers customers new, efficient automation possibilities in various applications, including changing clamping plates in machine tools and handling components in gantries or on robots with high repeat accuracy. The high tensile and holding force makes it an exceptionally rigid system that guarantees maximum torques and an extremely precise connection between robot and chuck, resulting in an improvement in the handling of especially heavy pallets. Due to its constructive design, the pallet changer enables clamping without pneumatic pressure. If required, the clamping force can be increased by an additional impulse at the PLUS joint.

Slim design, maximum holding power, maximum performance

The clamping system consists of the pallet changer, the pallet clutch as well as the clamping plate with zero-point clamping system mounted on the machine table. The changer is hereby equipped with four rotational safeguards and forms the interface between robot and pallet clutch. Here, the pallet changer locks form-fitted like the zero-point clamping system via tensioning segments specially adapted to the bolt contour. This creates an extremely rigid system.

The pallet coupling in turn serves to connect to the clamping plate. When connecting to the product, the rotation safeguards guarantee precise orientation and absorb moments. As an alternative to the pallet coupling, only one clamping bolt and two pins for the turn locks can also be inserted into the clamping plate.

The slim design and low construction consisting of clamping plate and pallet allow its use from the immediate vicinity of the machine table and ensure full utilization of the entire machine space. High clamping forces and the use of hardened stainless steel guarantee the safe handling of heavy pallets and give the system high rigidity, which guarantees maximum torques and a precise connection between robot and clamping plate. Thus, the highest forces can be absorbed with maximum repetition accuracy.

Integrated cleaning function for safe handling

Safety comes first with the pallet changer. In addition to the four rotary safeguards, the system has a cleaning function. The exhaust or cleaning function of the exchanger prevents dirt or deposits from accumulating in the bolt holder, contact surface and rotary safeguards. Integrated sensors can additionally assume a monitoring function with interrogation of piston position and tensioning bolt. Piston position interrogation and clamping position monitoring can thus make an additional contribution to safe production processes.

All in all, the pallet changer of the SPP series offers versatile advantages, among them the high retraction and holding force, the slim construction, the safety function with sensors and safe operation due to the cleaning function and spring storage. It is an innovative solution for pallet changing in tool machines and component handling in gantries or on robots with high repeat accuracy.
