Reliable processes for precise, dynamic and efficient production

Having complete control over highly complex processes is a clear competitive advantage in milling and turning. Live demonstrations and presentations at in hall nine (booth I32, K32 and in the Industry 4.0 area) will highlight this.

To make products that meet the highest demands for accuracy and quality in a reliable, efficient and cost-effective process, all the building blocks in and around the machine must fit together perfectly. Heidenhain has a suitable solution for every possible combination to optimize your process. The TNC control is the prime example. Even for single pieces, this control convinces with its process reliability, precision and productivity. It also guarantees simple and reliable digital integration of the machine into the process chain. Function packages such as Dynamic Precision, Dynamic Efficiency and Connectected Machining make this possible along with the many options. The new TNC 640 with 24" wide screen and Extend Workspace Compact can handle two working areas. In addition to the control screen, the operator can leave another application open. In this way, he has an enormously user-friendly workstation for fully digital processing of his orders in the control.

Protect against machine breakage

Heidenhain also introduces the new Component Monitoring option for its TNC controls. This focuses its vigilance on protecting processes and machines from breakage due to wear or overload. By monitoring spindle bearing loads, it ensures that preset limits are not exceeded to avoid damage. In turn, cyclic monitoring of the feed shafts allows conclusions to be drawn about wear and failures to be detected early. This increases process reliability, productivity and machine life, while simultaneously reducing machine downtimes as well as associated costs that are often significant. How intelligent data management can make a difference in an automated production environment is something Heidenhain, together with partners OPS-Ingersoll and Haimer, will demonstrate in the mav Industry 4.0 zone. Among other things, the demo will show how predictive order planning can be efficient. The TNC 640 controller, Batch Process Manager and StateMonitor software enable a perfectly organized and fully digital process.

New angle encoders for even greater precision and reliability

In addition, Heidenhain will show its encoders for determining the position of linear or rotary axes. They are the standard for Closed Loop control, where the dimensionally accurate precision of contours is not affected by thermal changes in the feed mechanism. At EMO, the focus is on angle encoders, which provide a solution for any rotary axis, in cooperation with AMO. The RCN 2001 optical angle encoders feature an integrated bearing and stator coupling that have been redesigned. This results in even better system precision and higher maximum speed. In turn, process reliability is enhanced by advanced monitoring capability. The new generation of modular optical ERA angle encoders now also features Heidenhain HSP 1.0 signal processing. This allows fluctuations in signal strength due to interference to be almost completely compensated. Finally, AMO will present its WMKA modular scale-tape solution, specifically designed for large diameters. This encoder is equipped with EnDat and DRIVE CLiQ interfaces for safety applications.

New Gen 3 drives: maximum performance

Motor and control technology from ETEL and Heidenhain contributes enormously to dynamic and high-precision motion control of machine tools. The new GEN 3 generation of drives from Heidenhain is making its debut at EMO. They guarantee maximum performance and intelligent transmission technology, powerful diagnostics and simple mounting and connection technology. ETEL present its TMB and TMK series torque motors. Their strengths include the gearless concept, optimum speed stability and exceptionally high operating quality. Together with Heidenhain measurement technology, they form a perfect combination for high-performance rotary axes. Their excellent dynamic accuracy, high rotational speeds and torques, and perfectly coordinated diagnostics are quite convincing.
