Automate and digitize production process using appropriate software

In subcontracting, automation is a must. They understood that very well at Stubbe Metalworking. The specialist in CNC turning and milling has been around for almost thirty years and has long been one of the pioneers when it comes to robotization of machines and automation and digitization of business processes. He has also been using the software package TopSolid'Cam to draw and control machines for many years. The establishment of TOPSOLID Belgium has once again strengthened the partnership.

We write 1994, when Pierre Stubbe founded a one-man business in his garage. Today, his life's work has grown into a specialist in turning and milling for single pieces, small series and larger quantities.

"We want to continuously improve our production processes and grow further. That's why our focus has always been on optimizing our machinery with CNC-controlled systems. In our sector, we are also one of the pioneers in the field of robotization," says the business manager. "When we were looking for a suitable software package, we ended up at TopSolid. However, the then TopSolid partners were mainly focused on the wood industry in their support, so the doubts grew."

Avoiding downtime

The establishment of TOPSOLID Belgium as a subsidiary for the Benelux was decisive for Stubbe to continue working with the software after all and to fully opt for TopSolid'Cam.

"We use this software to digitally control our five-axis machines as well as perform tool management. In the past, a drawing was sent to the machine, after which the operator programmed the machine and placed the tools. After adjustment, we could finally start production," Stubbe explains. "Now that programming and setting of the tools with built-in chip in the preparation are done through the software. Soon a Robojob Tower will be installed for the loading and unloading of the machining center and the automation will be pushed even further. Then we will be able to produce 24/7, because the software determines which tools will be used for a particular job and after a particular job, the system removes the pallet and applies another pallet to start a new job. Downtime is avoided."

Stubbe Metalworking uses TopSolid'Cam to draw and control machines, and for tool management.

"Automation, robotization and digitization go a long way at Stubbe. Together with an engineer from the manufacturing company, our people spent about a year integrating all the details of their CNC production and tool management into the software," states Jasper Steylaerts, business development manager at TOPSOLID Belgium. Pierre Stubbe concludes, "We are very satisfied with the quality of the software and the support of the Belgian subsidiary. We have recently purchased a second license to further digitize our production process."
