Investing in steady growth

Where, for once, the word "replacement investment" is not really appropriate: the Genk-based PariMetal very recently purchased from Wouters Cutting & Welding A brand new MicroStep MG CNC-controlled plasma cutting machine. Admittedly to replace an existing plasma cutter, but mainly because this machine too - sixteen years earlier - came from the same supplier. A new investment from a loyal customer that clearly makes a point for its own growth of constancy. We spoke with Jos Paridaans, CEO of PariMetal.

Family business

Jos Paridaans: "Our activities actually started back in 1994, when my parents started a construction workshop in Lommel. The set-up was initially very small-scale, with a local clientele for whom we took care of the construction of stairs, gates, fencing and, at that time, even oil fuel tanks. Steadily, however, the activity evolved toward the more industrial client, with an ever-increasing share of construction." The steady growth also meant that the company had to move geographically more than once, and so - after a nine-year stopover in the Maaseik industrial park - the metalworker finally landed at its current location in Genk in 2006.

Constructions for construction

Jos Paridaans: "Currently, PariMetal specializes in the construction of load-bearing structures for structural applications, and we thus act as a subcontractor for contractors of the most diverse sizes." These are therefore primarily heavy load-bearing structures, which Parimetal supplies within a wide geographical radius of operation.

The fact that the company, with just twelve workers, sees an average annual total of nearly 3,000 tons of steel pass across the shop floor is impressive to say the least. Jos Paridaans puts this into perspective: "You can look at this in two ways. On the one hand, this figure looks larger than it is, because we process relatively thick material. This way, you naturally achieve larger tonnages faster on an annual basis. But on the other hand, this also reflects the quality of our equipment, combined with our know-how and the professionalism we have in house."

Known achievements

A story in which the plasma cutting table has played a decisive role throughout PariMetal's history. Jos Paridaans: "The first MicroStep plasma cutting machine we bought from Wouters was delivered in 2007. After more than sixteen years, we felt it was time for a new one, and so we ended up at Wouters Cutting & Welding, our original supplier. After all, over the past few years, they have proven excellent service and reliability. And of course we made the necessary comparisons in advance, and also looked at prices and the like. But as far as we were concerned, these remained secondary to what really matters, and that is that rock-solid machine performance, backed up by a 24-hour service that is always ready when you really have problems. That's priceless."

The MicroStep in a nutshell

The new plasma cutter is a MicroStep MG 15001.25 P + CL1000, equipped with two straight plasma heads. The assembly is 15 meters long, 2.5 meters wide, with an overhanging gantry 1 meter wide. PariMetal uses that commonly to cut profiles. These pieces have regular grommets that used to be drilled or burned manually. Now this can be done via the plasma cutter, which saves a significant amount of time. Thanks to the powerful iMSNC 500 PC control system (running on Windows 11), several programs can run simultaneously, allowing cutting and simultaneous programming. Finally, a recently developed, reliable Q 3000 source from Kjellberg was chosen. PariMetal was obviously familiar with this type of machine, so the introduction and start-up of the new one went particularly smoothly. In any case, thorough training was provided so that a number of special functions for the PariMetal operators were also refreshed.

Ample potential

The new machine achieves cutting currents of up to 300A, which makes all the difference, especially for thicker plates: PariMetal now smoothly cuts sheet thicknesses of up to 50 mm, which was unachievable with the previous plasma cutter.

Moreover, because of its versatility, the MicroStep is also used to cut pieces for sister company PariTech, which is run by Jos' brother Chris.
